East Cheshire Ramblers relies on volunteers to help keep our local public rights of way open, accessible and enjoyable for everyone.
As a Footpath Inspector, you’ll play an important role in monitoring paths within your allocated area and reporting any issues that may affect walkers.
No specialist knowledge is required, and full guidance and support will be provided.
What Does a Footpath Inspector Do?
Footpath Inspectors help by:
- Walking local paths periodically
- Checking that paths are open and accessible
- Reporting damaged or missing signposts
- Identifying broken stiles, gates and bridges
- Reporting obstructions and vegetation problems
- Helping maintain accurate records of path conditions
Your observations help local authorities prioritise repairs and improvements, ensuring that our network of public paths remains available for future generations.
How Much Time Is Involved?
The role is flexible and can fit around your existing walking activities.
Many inspectors simply monitor paths while enjoying their regular walks, reporting any issues they encounter along the way.
You can contribute as much or as little time as you wish.
